Bankgirot is in the middle of extensive restructuring. The aim is to strengthen our competitive edge in conjunction with the major changes due in the European payments market in light of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). As a result, we are currently honing our organisation to successfully meet this challenge face on.
Our ambition is to continue to drive development so that payments in Sweden are made as efficiently as possible. Moreover, we want to act in the arena shared by our European competitors. This will be achieved through innovation and the continual development of better products.
Smart, efficient payments
The transactions that already pass through the bankgiro system amount to SEK 20-50 billion – every day. Bankgirot is our largest product and is the only giro system in Sweden that can handle all types of payment regardless of receiving/remitting bank. Bankgirot is one of roughly 20 clearing houses in Europe. This means we simplify and facilitate the smart and efficient handling of payments – without handling cash.
